Amparo is a composer, pianist and educator. She received degrees in Piano, Musicology, and Composition from the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Valencia, Spain. She also holds a Master in Music Composition from The Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music, New York, and a Ph.D. in Music Composition from The Graduate Center, The City University of New York. Currently, Amparo is the Chairperson of the Caroline L. Guarini Department of Music, Dance and Theatre at New Jersey City University. Amparo has a passion for natural education and is excited to be volunteering her time with Beyond School.

Joe is the Director of Grants and Special Programs at University Academy Charter High School on West Side Avenue in Jersey City. He was born and raised in Bayonne, attended Bayonne High School, and eventually earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History with Certification in Secondary Education from New Jersey City University in 2006. He later earned a Master’s Degree in Urban Education with Principal Certification in 2015. Shortly after completing his undergraduate degree, he began teaching social studies at his current school and did so for the next 10 years. He specialized in World Culture but has also taught US History and Social Justice, and was named the first ever “Teacher of the Year” at UACHS during the 2013-2014 school year.


Joe is the Co-Founder and member at large of the Friends of UACHS non-profit organization. The organization seeks to build a bridge between University Academy and the Community. Lastly, Joe is a proud Rotarian and will be entering his third year as the Interact Club adviser at his school, where he is very lucky to have so many amazing students volunteering their time to "service above self."


Paul is a musician, educator and mentor. He has taught music at the elementary and high school levels and worked as a music therapist at a school for students with special needs. Before entering public education, Paul was a professional musician. He graduated from New Jersey City University with a degree in Music Composition and completed teacher certification via the alternate route program. While teaching at University Academy Charter High School in Jersey City, Paul was co-director of the Young Men’s Leadership Academy – a Saturday program that serves to educated and empower Jersey City Youth.

Robert’s career in education began in 1972 as an elementary teacher at a small Catholic School in Asbury Park. He continued teaching at the elementary and middle school levels in Manchester Township until 1992 when he accepted the position of Assistant Principal at Keyport High School. In 1999, Robert was appointed Principal of Keyport Central School, where he worked until his retirement. Since retiring, Robert has worked as a scorer for Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey and is currently a mentor at the Leaders to Leaders program for new school administrators.
